Has an Ace ever looked so Good?

2009's Game number 7 is now officially scheduled.

Since the June tournament we have said good by to a few famous people. Billy Mayes, Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon looked to be all short stacked and ended up on the big rail in the sky.

A few days later we got the news that Michael Jackson also went all in with the second best hand. Rumor has it that the real reason was food poisoning, I guess it was too many 7 year old nuts.

Looking at the current points standings you can begin to sort out the top players from the rest of the field. The top 9 are full of top players with a few question marks mixed in. Just outside the top 9 there are a number of players that are running out of months to win those elusive points. There is still enough time but to miss a month now may cost you dearly in December.

Its now or never for the lower 3rd of the leaderboard. They must place high in several of the final tournaments to have a chance. With 9th place holding 24 points, a win and the 16 points associated with it can potentially bring a player from 19th into the top 9. If your in 19th or lower you have no option but to show every month and play at your best.

We are getting reports that Josh will make his return this month. With 7 points he is one of those players that needs to take his game to the next level. A win could bring him into striking distance of the top 9 and in the past he has shown the mental fortitude to play above his skill level.

While Scott T and Kyle may feel comfortable with there year end situation they too need to be vigilant. A slip here or there with a good run from a few just outside the top could potentially evaporate one or both of their leads and make Novembers tournament a do or die situation. I'm confident they will both be there and be playing at their best.

I have the utmost faith that Steve D will be playing in December as well as Aaron, Albeit for different reasons. Steve D is by far one of the strongest players in the league. A player that knows the game and is one of my finest students. Aaron is an up and comer in poker. Not yet the player he could be but with his familiarity with everyone in the room he has the upper hand.

Ray is in 6th and seems to defy the odds every month. Just ahead of yours truly he has a couple cashes this year and seems to almost always find a way to get the points he needs. The quiet type of player you don't realize he is even in the room until he sucks the 3rd Five out to beat you. He is currently on my shit list for that play and I'm hoping for payback soon.

Big Frank tripped his way into the top 9 last month. With a Tournament record 22 trips to bar for snacks he holds a slim lead over Javier. Four points is all that separates Javier from the promise land but with his recent lackluster play he may need to crank it up a notch so not to be left out. He must place in the points to get the invite in December. Frank is sure to be watching the leaderboard closely. You get a point to show, but with only 5 months left the pressure is on to make the final table or the 60 day wait between November and January 2010 may seem like forever.

Pete will look to make Scott T pay for Junes ugly suck out. A set of 10's is a hell of a hand, Scotts call was not a bad one but Pete was not happy seeing the set of Aces on the turn to cripple him and send him home early. Scott be pre warned. Pete has his own shit list started and you may be on it.

Willis, Miller, Rafael and Russ are all lurking just outside. It will only take a few of these guys in the top 4 in July to move some players off the leaderboard. As they look forward they have no option but to show from here on out.

Now for Matt. Poor Matt is sitting in 18th place. 11 Points. Now known as the John Daly of the league he really needs to:
A: Be sent down to Double A Poker
B: Suck it up and play like we know he can
C: Quit all together and play in slot tournaments

Now this may seem harsh but poker is not patty cakes. A degree of criticism should be expected when a players performance is sub par. I for one feel like he could return to be a good player someday, but a great player may be too much to ask.

There was a game last Saturday that a few regulars attended. Willis was there. Where do we think he came in? You guessed it. First out and off to the cash game. Javier and Rafael both came and donated their cash as well. As for myself I came in 2nd. A pair of 10's and Big John with a Q9 off-suit gets a queen to end my run.

A good time was had by all and rumor has it that Javier will be having a warm up later this month. The Mohegan Sun is having a great tournament at the end of the month and yours truly will be playing in the $600 buy in on Saturday the 25th of July. Click below for all the details.
