Mohegan Spring Showdown

Well its here. All the excitement of big stack tournament play started Sunday with the Mohegan Sun Spring Showdown. Javier and I both went down for Event 2, $350 No Limit Hold em Monday Tournament. 25k Starting stack with 40 minute Blinds.

We had a total of 612 players entered. The day ended with 117 of us coming back for day 2 at noon on Tuesday. Yours truly went out in, You guessed it, 117th. Zero cash. Only top 70 got paid.

Javier on the other hand with my expert tutelage was able to make the cash. The 38th place finisher has made us all proud. Starting Tuesday with only $79800 in chips he was able to push the table with rolled QQ twice early on and got no callers. Showing the cards both times would help him later have some table credibility At this point there is 17k in blinds and antes alone. When the Bubble boy busted, Javier was sitting on a $250k stack. With the rolled QQ still on this tablemates minds he decided that this is the time to cash in that earned respect, pushing a few times so steal some blinds and antes with sucess. Building his stack up to $375k. Then the Lady's came back to chip away at him. Under the gun with JJ he raises to 100k, Table folds all the way to the button and the big blind goes all in for $26ok, Javier calls and gets the bad news, QQ. Down to around $110k its move time.

All in with A8, Called by K10....Flop has an 8 but also a K, Javier way behind watches the turn provide the 8 he needed and he escapes a close one. a few hands later with about 200k left. Blinds are 12k - 24k with a 1k ante he makes what will be his final move. Under the Gun, KQ Suited he says all in for the final time. One caller shows the rolled QQ and Javier is sent to the rail in 38th place.

All in all it was a great showing for what might be the second best player in Aaron's league.

He lived and died with the Lady's on day two and with one more hit flop may have had a chance to play for the over $45000 first place payout.

Great Job Javier!
