The 2011 Slow Play Saloon Final Table

9 of the leagues best poker players (and Matt) will take their seats this Sunday and put to rest the nagging question of who is #1.

As we wrap up the 5th year of play I thought we should first look back at past final tables.

In 2007 there were some familiar names and then some names that make us wonder what ever happened to that guy!

2007 Final table
Greg
Javier
Ryan
Josh
Aaron
Jim B
Matt
Scott T
Dave R

Now before you pat any of these guys on the back remember there was only about 16 total players that year. Guys like Ryan, Jim B and Greg have been M.I.A for many years

2008
Matt
Aaron
Steve D.
Dave R.
Josh
Javier
Dave N.
Pete
Kyle

In 2008 we started to see a trend. Outside of Josh and Matt it seemed like the better players were going to be on the Final tables moving forward from year to year. The field was getting tougher and larger but the committed players improved their games and claimed their rightful spot in Decembers game.

2009
 Scott T.
Kyle
Dave N.
Chris W.
Frank
Rafael
Matt
Miller
Steve

In 2009 we said good by to Josh from the elite. A run of the mill player with very limited upside his time was over. While its hard to say "Josh was a good player" with a strait face we should remember that every tournament has a "Josh". That one player that you know will call with crap and raise with sqwadoush. We will continue to welcome his attendance, and money with open arms.

2010
Dave R.
Javier
Aaron
Kyle
Rafael
Pete
Mark S.
Larry
Frank
Dave N.

2010 Was a big year. Aaron added the 10th seat and the December tournament grew by one. Several trends started as well. Willis turned the friendly cash game into chaos, Dave R set a record in points and the Peruvians took charge or the game. Rafael won his 2nd tournament of champions in a row.

John P

2011 Welcomes back Matt to the final table. With an embarrassing 2010 in the review mirror he is hoping to once again be able to stand with the best.

John P has his first ever seat this December. A strong finish in November wrapped up the 10 seat at the big dance

Chris W is back as well for his 2nd final table in 3 years. While his 2010 showing was about as nice as his haircut he bounced back nicely this year for an 8th place finish.

Pete makes his 3rd of the last 4 years. A grumpy player that always seems to be pissed off at something, he secured his seat early with some tremendous plays and looks to spread his joy this Sunday.

Mark S is on his 2nd consecutive final table. A streaky player with a penchant for beer and rogaine he is sure to mix it up.

Javier is Back. With 4 out of 5 final tables he has shown just what Uptheodds poker lessons can do. He still thinks about the 2009 season, the only year he did not make the final table. the set over set still haunts him to this day and he continues to study with the head coach on a weekly basis.

Scott T only makes final tables in odd years so he will be gunning for the win Sunday. 07, 09, and 2011 were his high points while 2008, 2010 and his senior prom were the low points. A numbers man that you can sometimes see dressed at the statue of liberty outside of liberty tax service.

Aaron has a big year. 75 points, countless wins, cashes and bud lights. Along with Javier, 2009 was his only no show. Throughout the season you can always bank on him getting smashed, yelling at someone and having a hideous haircut. As our beloved commissioner and assistant coach he would love to finish the year with a victory to quiet the critics

I happen to be on my 4th consecutive final table. as the head coach it is only natural that I represent the group each and every year. As the fan favorite and all around good guy its hard to root against me. Watching some of my students play along side me makes me feel good about me sharing my knowledge of the game. I hope to bring home the trophy this year but one of my finest students my have something to say about it......

Rafael.......Back to back champion of the slow play saloon and 3rd final table in a row. The odds on favorite to win for sure. A product of the uptheodds poker academy he continues to excel at all aspects of the game.
Can he continue his dominance? Will he be able to outplay his teacher? Is he in this country legally?

All these questions and more will be answered this weekend. 12/11/2011
